A set of masks with decals for the Spitfire Mk IX in 1:48 scale. The canopy frames are handled from the outer and the inner side, and one version of the shapes for the marking is included.
Responsibility details are not available.
When it became clear that the Mk V was not enough, the designers reached for the fastest solution: they built a Merlin of the 60 series with a two-stage supercharger into the existing airframe. The nose grew longer, a four-blade propeller was added and a second radiator went under the wing, so the machine stopped being symmetrical from the outside. The improvisation worked out so well that the Mark IX became the most widespread version of the second half of the war and flew with units of a number of Allied countries.
The set contains a double cut. The outer shapes carry on the camouflage of the spine, the inner ones follow the shade of the cockpit. Anyone who uses both gets a canopy that looks like an assembled structure when seen from the side, not like a transparent bubble with lines painted on it.
Several numbers are made for this mark and the difference between them lies in the extent of the sheet and in which schemes the enclosed decals cover.
