A set of narrow strips for covering the seams over the ribs on German fabric with a printed polygonal pattern. Twenty blue and twenty yellow strips in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
During 1917 German aviation made its work easier by giving up spraying the camouflage pattern by hand and starting to take delivery of covering fabric with a preprinted arrangement of irregular polygons. The material arrived in the workshops ready made, in two forms: a darker one for the upper surfaces and a lighter one, with blue green tones predominating, for the underside of the wing.
The fabric was sewn to the frame and every seam over a rib was then taped over and stitched with a narrow ribbon. On a finished machine these ribbons formed a regular grid running across the whole depth of the wing and were clearly visible in photographs, because they were a different color from the surrounding pattern. A modeler, however, has to manage them forty times in a row perfectly straight, and that is work that hand cut strips usually spoil with a frayed edge.
The sheet offers 20 blue and 20 yellow strips printed on decal film, that is two color options for one model. The choice belongs to the subject: the color of the ribbons differed between individual airframe manufacturers and follows the photograph of the period or the profile you are building.
The strips are not tied to a single type. They come into play wherever a machine had fabric covering with a printed pattern, that is on fighters as well as two-seaters of German aviation from the last two years of the war. They combine with sheets of the patterned fabric itself, which the same line offers in five as well as four shades.
The film is thin and once dry it reliably follows taut fabric. The base has to be glossy and smooth, otherwise a white veil will appear under the strip.
