The real subject

The Su-25 is a Soviet attack aircraft intended for close support of ground forces. It was built on simplicity and toughness: the pilot sits in a welded armored bathtub, the structure takes a hit and the machine gets off short and unpaved surfaces close to the front. The straight wing carries a row of pylons for bomb and rocket armament, so the aircraft stays over the battlefield for a long time and with a large load. The two-seat UB form has a lengthened forward fuselage and the second seat set higher, so that the instructor can see forward over the pupil's head. It keeps its combat capability, which matters on a trainer of this class.

About the kit

The model captures the machine in 1:48 scale, that is at a size at which the cockpit and the external stores are comfortable to work with. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the list of parts, the survey of marking options and the recommended procedure are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.

Building and painting tips

First build and paint both cockpits, because once the fuselage is glued you will no longer reach them. Try the parts dry, above all the joint of the fuselage with the wing and the fitting of the engine nacelles. Wash and degrease the model before painting and apply the paint in thin layers, so that the engraved detail stays legible. Paint the external stores separately and hang them only at the end, so that both sides are symmetrical. Mask the cockpit glazing before spraying, not after the paint has dried.
