Cut masks for building the Su-33 carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. The masks are stuck onto the areas that are meant to come out of spraying clean and are then taken off. The shape is cut in advance to the parts of the model, so you do not have to struggle with measuring tape out or trimming it with a scalpel on a finished model.
The Su-33 is a carrier fighter derived from the land-based Su-27. It differs from the basic type above all in its strengthened landing gear, its arrestor hook, folding wings and folding horizontal tails for stowage aboard ship, and the foreplanes ahead of the wing. It is a large twin-engine machine, and the sizable cockpit with its high domed canopy matches that.
A large model does not mean easier masking; rather the opposite. The canopy of the Su-33 is long and tall, so the edge of the mask runs for several meters of scaled-up perimeter, and a single spot left unpressed is enough for paint to settle in it and bleed visibly. Work piece by piece: settle each one dry, line it up with the engraved frame, press it with a blunt stick all the way round and check it against the light to see whether an air bubble is showing through anywhere. Before the target shade, seal the edge with a thin coat of base or clear paint. Given the size of the area, spray patiently in thin coats so that the edge does not round into a step. Take the mask off shortly after spraying, while the paint has only just dried to the touch.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check the extent of the set against the manufacturer's details before you buy.
