Pre-cut films for the glazing of the Soviet Sukhoi Su-9 interceptor in 1:48 scale. The set has two pieces: the outer one follows the frames of the canopy and the inner one covers the transparency from the opposite side. The shapes are derived from the kit from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Su-9 was the result of a clearly narrowed specification: get the fighter as high as possible as fast as possible, guide it to the target from a ground control station and let it launch guided missiles. Nothing more was expected of it, so the designers sacrificed almost everything else. The delta wing and a powerful engine gave it excellent rate of climb, but its range was short and its landing speed so high that the aircraft did not enjoy the reputation of a forgiving machine among pilots. It entered air defense service at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s and became the first Soviet production interceptor with armament conceived in this way. A two-seat training version with a different, lengthened canopy also existed, so the single-seat and two-seat variants have entirely different glazing.
The nose of the aircraft is formed by a circular air intake with a cone in the middle, and the cockpit follows on from it with no visible division. On the model this means that the canopy continues the line of the fuselage and any asymmetry of the frame breaks the overall impression of a smooth nose. A pre-cut film keeps the line symmetrical on both sides. When spraying it is recommended to work from the cockpit shade to the top coat and to lift the film off only at the very end.
