1:48 Sukhoi Su-27 exterior is a detail set of external features from Metallic Details for a model of this fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The item is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory. The set concentrates on the exterior of a Su-27 model in 1:48 scale, that is, on the small features on the skin of the airframe that an injection mold manages only coarsely or leaves out altogether. It is fitted to a model that has already been built or is part-built, and its purpose is to move the surface detail closer to reality.
Exterior details are, paradoxically, what you see most on a model and at the same time what tends to be skimped in the box. Thin projections cannot be injection molded, because they would break, so they end up as thick stubs. A metal accessory gets round that compromise. The difference shows best on the large smooth areas of the aircraft, where every sharp feature creates a shadow and the surface stops looking empty.
The Su-27 is a Soviet heavy twin-engine fighter with a blended airframe layout, a pair of vertical tail surfaces and large air intakes under the wing root. It is precisely the large continuous areas of the upper fuselage and the wing that make this type a rewarding candidate for added exterior detail.
The procedure is the opposite of that for interior equipment. Paint the model first, varnish it and apply the decals, and only then fit the exterior parts, or you will tear them off at every further step. Pre-drill the places for seating with a micro drill bit, as a joint glued onto a smooth surface soon gives way. Degrease the metal parts and spray a primer before fitting them, as on the model you can only paint them with a brush. Glue with thin cyanoacrylate in the smallest possible drops, as a surplus on a varnished surface leaves a dull stain.
This is an accessory for building a model, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
