This item is not a model of an aircraft, but a full interior photo-etched set from the Czech maker Eduard. It serves to detail the cockpit of a plastic Su-27S model in 1:48 scale. The sets designated interior are among the most extensive at Eduard: they combine parts printed in color, which are stuck straight onto the plastic bases of the cockpit, with unpainted etched parts for additional structural elements. The extent is markedly greater than with the simplified sets of the Zoom range, which offer only a selection of the most visible parts of the same subject.
The Su-27 is a Soviet twin-engine heavy fighter; the first prototype flew in 1977 and the fundamentally reworked production form entered service in the mid-1980s. The Su-27S is the single-seat production fighter variant. The aircraft has an integral aerodynamic arrangement in which the fuselage contributes to lift as well, and the engines are housed in separate nacelles under the center section. The cockpit is roomy, with an ejection seat and analog instruments with round dials - exactly the type of subject where painted photo-etched panels work best.
Bend the parts in a bending tool, or over the edge of a clean steel blade; etched sheet holds its shape only with a sharp, one-off bend. First sand the molded relief of the instruments off the plastic parts of the cockpit, otherwise a painted panel will not bed down and will stand away. They are attached in spots with low-wicking cyanoacrylate glue or with a special glue for etched parts - cement for plastic will not join metal. Even the finished interior out with a flat coat and then bring the individual dials to life with a drop of gloss clear, which imitates the glass of an instrument.
The set is an accessory for a plastic model; it is not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
