Photo-etched parts in thin sheet intended to refine the external surface of a model of the two-seat Sukhoi Su-27UB aircraft in 1:48 scale from Eduard. The word exterior in the name sets the set apart from the interior ones, which deal with the cockpit and the instrument panel. It is not a kit and a model cannot be built from it; it is an accessory. The point of photo-etched parts is simple: even with the best mold plastic has its minimum thickness, whereas sheet has a thickness of hundredths of a millimeter, so small covers and perforated parts come out realistically.
The Su-27UB is the two-seat combat trainer version of the Su-27 with cockpits in tandem and with taller vertical tail surfaces, which compensate for the changed airflow behind the lengthened front section. The two-seat version kept its combat capability, so it was not used only for training. As on the single-seat version, the airframe is broken up by a number of covers and openings that in this scale are smaller than the thickness of a plastic part.
First try dry where every part belongs, and only then reach for the glue; once it has dried you will not move a photo-etched part again. Sand and degrease the place to be glued; grease from fingers is the most common reason a part holds only for a moment. Make the bends in a bending tool; with long narrow parts it helps to bend them while they are still on the fret. Apply a primer for metal before spraying. During the final clear coating, spray perpendicular, so that a heavy layer of paint does not get under the edge of a photo-etched part and round it off.
It is not a model of an aircraft, but an accessory for one. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
