1:48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I national insignia is a decal sheet with national insignia for a model of the British fighter in 1:48 scale — an accessory, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Of the several accessory lines of Eduard this item belongs among the decal sets. It is neither an etch nor a resin cockpit, but a printed sheet of waterslide decals with national insignia for a model of the Spitfire Mk.I in 1:48 scale. It is used as a replacement for or a supplement to the decals supplied with the kit.
The quality of a decal is judged today mainly by the thickness of the carrier film and by how precisely the colors register. A thin film sucks down onto the surface better and practically disappears once it is clear coated, but it is also more fragile and wrinkles more easily. It pays to work with it one piece at a time, without hurrying, and to keep a cotton swab at hand for pushing air bubbles out from the center toward the edges.
A silvery haze around a decal is the most common flaw. It arises because air stays trapped between the film and the matte paint. Prevention has three steps: lay a gloss clear coat under the decals, treat the decal with a softener once it has settled so that it is drawn into the engraved lines, and finally spray the whole model with a clear coat in the chosen degree of sheen. If silvering appears all the same, it can often be saved by pricking the film with a very fine needle and applying the softener again.
This is an accessory to a build, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
