About product

Cockpit of the Tempest Mk. II 1:48 — a resin set from Eduard

A resin cockpit set in 1:48 scale for a model of the Hawker Tempest Mk.II fighter. It is not a kit of the aircraft but a complete accessory that replaces the cockpit interior from the box with castings of markedly finer detail — a plastic mold cannot capture the thin seat frames, the wiring or the depth of the side panels. The set belongs to the Brassin resin range of the Czech brand Eduard of Obrnice near Most.

The real subject

The Hawker Tempest Mk.II differs from the better-known Mk.V variant in its powerplant: instead of the liquid-cooled Napier Sabre H-block engine it received a Bristol Centaurus radial, which fundamentally changed the shape of the nose — the under-fuselage radiator disappeared and the nose widened into a cylindrical engine cowling. The aircraft had a laminar-flow wing with a slender section and four cannon in the leading edge. It practically never took part in the fighting of the Second World War; the bulk of its service lay in the postwar years. The cockpit is unusually visible under a sliding canopy with a good view.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin parts in warm water with detergent, otherwise neither glue nor paint will hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surfaces wet with abrasive paper — always with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Expect that internal lugs will have to be sanded off the plastic fuselage halves so that the cockpit seats and the fuselage can then be closed; always try the fit dry first, ideally with the fuselage halves taped together. Paint the cockpit and bring it out with a wash and a dry brush before the fuselage is glued together.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Hawker Tempest Mk.II in 1:48 scale
  • Those who want to finish a model with the cockpit canopy open
  • Builders with experience of resin and of adapting parts
  • Those interested in a marked rise in detail without rebuilding the whole model

This is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Rather not. A resin cockpit is glued with cyanoacrylate glue and almost always calls for sanding the internal lugs off the fuselage so that the part seats. It takes patience and a dry test fit.

Cockpit sets of this kind usually include the floor, the side panels, the seat and the instrument panel. The exact contents and the number of parts are given on the packaging.

The Tempest Mk.II in 1:48 scale is offered by more than one manufacturer and cockpit dimensions differ — so check the match before buying.
