This is not an aircraft but a ground service vehicle that belongs to the everyday operation of an airfield. The tractor moves aircraft about the apron, pulls them into a hangar and hauls trolleys with materiel away. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted and in the larger 1:48 scale it is rewarding for detailed work.
Airfield tow tractors are by their nature small, low and heavy vehicles. They have to fit under the fuselage and wing of an aircraft, have sufficient grip on the surface and manage precise maneuvering in tight spaces. British airfields used a whole range of such machines, from simple tractors taken over from agriculture to purpose-built designs with a low silhouette. In a display case and in a diorama alike a tractor works well as a measure: only next to a small vehicle does it stand out how large an aircraft in fact was.
The vehicle is small, so think the order of gluing through beforehand and keep access to the cab and to the engine section until they are painted. Fit the wheels only at the end, after the clear coat has been sprayed, so that they can be masked easily. Build the frame and the chassis on a flat base, otherwise the model will rock. For painting use primer, spray the base shade in thin layers and then enliven the areas with a lighter touch in the middle of the panels. Airfield vehicles tend to be scuffed from frequent handling, so fine chipping with a dry brush on the edges, a panel wash and dust pigments on the wheels and the lower part all come in handy. It is advisable to add small operational markings and warning stripes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
