Vane Gun Sights 1:48 is a set of resin vane sights for flexible aircraft machine guns. It is a small accessory for a model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains vane sights for flexible aircraft machine guns in 1:48 scale. These are small but telling accessories: details like these are exactly what sets a model built straight from the box apart from one that reads as convincing. Resin castings make it possible to produce the slender rings and vanes that could never be molded in injected plastic. It is not an airplane kit but an accessory that is fitted to the armament of a model under construction or already finished.
Vane sights were used on the flexible machine guns of First World War aircraft. Aiming from a moving aircraft, the gunner had to allow for deflection, that is for the fact that both the target and his own machine would move in the meantime. A sight with a vane that responded to the oncoming airflow helped him judge the correction he needed. In construction it was a simple mechanical device with no optics, usually mounted directly on the weapon.
The parts are very small, so work over a mat and with tweezers. Wash the castings first in lukewarm soapy water, so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a new, sharp blade or the finest saw and level the surface carefully. They are bonded with super glue, that is cyanoacrylate, applied in the smallest possible amount: any excess drowns the detail. For painting, a thin coat of a dark metallic shade is enough, with a fine wash if you like; a heavy coat of paint would bury the tiny shapes.
This is an accessory, not a complete kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
