Aviattic: the German naval Naval Hex, printed fabric on a white backing, 1:48: a decal sheet with the hexagonal camouflage pattern of Imperial German naval aviation of the First World War in the full saturation of the print.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Aviattic decal sheet reproduces the German naval hexagonal pattern Naval Hex, the printed covering fabric used by Imperial German naval aviation during the First World War. Printing on an opaque white backing (white decal paper) guarantees the full saturation of the colors independent of the color of the surface of the model.
Where the German air service used the polygonal lozenge, Imperial German naval aviation introduced its own camouflage of regular hexagons, toned for use over the sea. The pattern was carried above all by seaplanes and floatplanes operating over the North Sea and the Baltic. For a model of a naval machine the hexagonal covering is an essential recognition feature, and with sprayed camouflage it can hardly be imitated faithfully at all.
Prepare the surface smooth and glossy; thanks to the white backing its color has no effect on the saturation of the print. Lay the decals on section by section with plenty of water and keep checking the regular geometry of the hexagons against the line of the fuselage and the leading edges, because with a regular pattern every ripple shows. Use softener to settle them onto the edges, add rib tapes once they are dry and fix the whole with a satin or matte clear coat. On floatplanes a light patina of salt traces suits the model.
This is a decal sheet, an accessory to a model. The aircraft kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package.
