Yak-1 early series, interior 3D decals 1:48, base variant (Quinta Studio)

A set of three-dimensional 3D decals for the cockpit of the Soviet Yak-1 fighter aircraft in the form of the early production series, in 1:48 scale. The elements are not printed on a thin film like ordinary decals: they have relief of their own and are printed on decal backing paper, from which they slide onto the part after a brief dip in lukewarm water. This package is the base variant of the range: it is intended for a simpler approach to fitting out the cockpit than the extended form of the same set. They do not have to be painted, as the elements are finished.

About the form and its extent

For this type of aircraft the manufacturer offers several variants of the set, which differ in extent and in how demanding they are to apply. This package is designated as the base one. The extent of both forms is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging, and it is worth comparing the manufacturer's illustrations of the two forms before buying.

Use

• Cut the element out with a new blade close to the relief and dip it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds, then slide it off the backing paper into place.
• The elements have no adhesive layer of their own, so coat the plastic part in advance with a gloss varnish (Future or Klear, Tamiya X-22), on which they hold best.
• The surface under the decal must be flat and clean; sand coarse engraved detail down, as otherwise the element will sit only on the high points.
• Align the position with a damp brush, draw the excess water off and press the element down with a soft stick from the center outward, so that no bubble is left under it. In intricate places a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps.
• Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. Unify the interior with a flat clear coat at the end and bring the instrument glasses out with a drop of gloss.
