About product

Yak-1 middle production 1:48 - instrument panel 3D decal (Quinta Studio)

This item is not a kit and not a complete interior set. It is a narrowly focused accessory: a three-dimensional decal of the instrument panel alone of the Soviet Yak-1 fighter in its middle production form, 1:48 scale. The element is printed in relief, straight in color, on a backing decal paper - after a short soak in lukewarm water it slides off the paper onto the part, and unlike a photo-etched panel it does not have to be painted or backed with a film of dials.

What you get and what you do not

In a closed cockpit the instrument panel is the only part of the interior that is properly visible, and at the same time the place where the plastic from the kit tends to be weakest. That is why the manufacturer offers the panel on its own as well. The set therefore does not deal with the side walls, the seat or the belts - if you want the complete pilot's station, the full interior variant of the same line covers it. The extent of the sheet beyond the instrument panel is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

Application tips

Sand the molded relief of the instruments flat with a file or abrasive paper, otherwise the new panel will not seat and will curl. Degrease the surface and go over it with a gloss coat (Future/Klear, Tamiya X-22): the panel has no adhesive layer of its own and holds precisely on gloss. Spray the base color of the cockpit beforehand so that the edges of the panel do not show bare plastic. Dip the cut-out panel in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds, slide it off the paper onto the part, blot the water away and press it down with a soft wooden stick from the center toward the edges; on an intricate edge a drop of super glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. The dials already have the imitation of glass in the print, so do not overcoat them with matte varnish - it would kill the sheen that makes the whole effect.

Who it is for

  • modelers who build with a closed canopy and still want a faithful panel
  • builders of Soviet fighters in 1:48 scale
  • anyone who wants an improvement without the full interior set
  • those who do not want to paint and varnish photo-etch

This is an accessory for a kit, not a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No, it is focused on the instrument panel. The complete pilot's station is covered by the full interior variant of the same line.

No. The imitation of the instrument glasses is part of the print and a matte coat would suppress it.

Sand the original molded instruments flat with abrasive paper, degrease the surface and go over it with a gloss coat - the panel has no adhesive layer of its own and holds best on gloss.
