A turned metal barrel for the 152.4 mm M-10S howitzer for the Soviet KV-2 heavy tank in 1:56 scale from the maker Aber. A small metal part for models in the scale common in tabletop wargames.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory in 1:56 scale from the Polish maker Aber. The turned metal barrel replaces the plastic or resin part from a kit and rids a model of a lengthwise seam and of an irregular cross-section. The 1:56 scale is used above all for models for tabletop wargames, where figures and equipment are built in a height range of around twenty-eight millimeters. It is not a tank kit but a single part.
The KV-2 was a Soviet heavy tank of the beginning of the Second World War, derived from the hull of the KV type and fitted with a tall angular turret. In it was mounted a howitzer of 152.4 mm caliber, that is a weapon intended above all for destroying field fortifications and resistant obstacles, not for fighting tanks. The tall turret raised the center of gravity and the weight of the weapon slowed the crew down when loading, so the vehicle was hard to use in the field and only a limited number of examples were built.
A short barrel of large caliber is genuinely small in 1:56 scale, so work with tweezers over a surface with a rim. Check the opening in the turret mantlet dry and widen it carefully if need be. Glue with super glue or epoxy; with models for playing it pays to reinforce the joint, because figures and equipment are often picked up. Degrease the metal before painting and use a base coat for metal surfaces, or the paint will quickly be rubbed off during handling.
The accessory is not a model in itself. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
