The sheet from the manufacturer ETA diorama serves for building dioramas and vignettes in the large 1:6 scale. The printed maps and documents are used in a scene as sheets spread out on a table, papers in a figure's hand, the contents of a satchel or documents laid casually on a crate. The product is printed paper, not a plastic kit and not a decal, so you work on it with scissors, a scalpel and glue.
In 1:6 scale every part is relatively large and the viewer looks at it close up, so cleanliness of the cut is what counts. Use a new edge and cut along a rule; a frayed margin is visible at once at this scale. With documents that are meant to come across as loose sheets, on the contrary, it pays to tear the edges gently by hand — a torn edge looks more believable than a machine-straight one.
Onto smooth surfaces, glue with thin PVA glue applied thinly over the whole area, so that the paper does not buckle. For a sheet folded in half or bent over the edge of a table, dampen the paper first, bend it over a blunt edge and let it dry under a weight. If you want a map that holds its shape in a figure's hands, back it with thin aluminum foil — the assembly then stays in the position you bend it into.
Fresh printing comes across as too crisp. Light yellowing with a very thinned brown wash or a weak hint of beige paint from an airbrush helps, together with bringing out the bends and mildly dirtying the corners with pigment. At the end spray with matte clear coat, so that the sheen of the printing comes in line with the surrounding materials of the scene.
