The sheet from the manufacturer ETA diorama is a paper accessory for building dioramas and vignettes in the large 1:6 scale. Warning signs belong among the elements that give a scene an understandable story — they bound a space, suggest a dangerous zone and explain why the figures are moving along this particular way. The product is printed paper, so you cut the signs out and complete them with a supporting structure of your own.
Paper on its own is too soft for a sign. So back the cut-out motif with a thin plastic sheet, card or thin sheet metal — only then does it look like a solid board and it does not buckle. Make the post or the peg from a plastic profile, a wooden skewer or wire and attach it to the reverse. At 1:6 scale it pays to suggest the anchoring as well, for example wire mounts or nails from sanded wire.
A sign looks natural when it does not stand perfectly vertical. A slight tilt, a bent post or a board hanging by one corner only give away time and use. Guide tape between pegs, low stakes or a little heap of soil around the foot of the post will round out the transition between the sign and the terrain. Mask the joint with the base with pigment and fine static material.
Age the paper with a muted wash, add scuffed edges suggested with a lighter or on the contrary a darker paint and fine traces of corrosion with pigment at the mounts. Because a sign in a diorama tends to be exposed to touch during handling, spray it with matte clear coat after patinating — the clear coat strengthens the surface and at the same time brings the sheen in line with the surrounding materials of the scene.
