A set of 9 turned 406 mm barrels from Aber in 1:700 in the short form for models of the American battleships North Carolina and Washington.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of nine turned metal barrels of the 406 mm main armament in 1:700 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a kit of a ship but replacement parts for the plastic barrels. The short form reckons on turrets where the root of the barrel is covered by a blast bag, so only the visible part is fitted. Turned metal brings a perfectly straight barrel with a circular cross section and a drilled muzzle.
The 406 mm caliber made up the main armament of the American battleships of the North Carolina class. The North Carolina and the Washington both carried nine of these guns in three triple turrets, two forward and one aft. The blast bags where the barrel passes through the turret face kept water and fumes from getting inside and they are clearly visible in period photographs. Nine barrels in the set match the full armament of one ship.
Cut the plastic barrels off with a saw at the turret face and clean up or drill out the hole to the diameter of the pin. Glue the metal barrel in with cyanoacrylate glue and line all three barrels of a turret up in one plane before it sets. The bag itself can be suggested with a thin strip of filler wrapped around the root of the barrel and sanded to a soft shape once dry. Degrease the metal, spray it with a base coat for metal and paint it together with the turret.
This is an accessory set of turned barrels, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
