Sword is among the manufacturers of short-run models who bet on less usual variants of well-known types. That brings a different logic of building than with mass-production kits: the parts tend to be finely engraved, but the joints are refined dry and the builder adjusts the fit themselves. Check the exact make-up of the package, that is whether resin or clear supplementary parts are enclosed, in the instructions.
Avenger AS.4 was the designation of the anti-submarine version of the three-seat carrier aircraft from Grumman, or rather Eastern Aircraft, which in the postwar years was operated by British naval aviation and in a similar form by other European navies as well. Compared with the wartime torpedo version the machine was adapted to the patrol and anti-submarine role: inside the fuselage it carried equipment for surveillance and the operators, while the external shape stayed the same including the roomy bomb bay and the characteristic dorsal gun turret on the older machines. It is precisely the differences in equipment and in the antennas that distinguish the individual postwar versions from one another.
With a short-run kit, start by trying all the main parts dry and removing the molding remains with a file, not with cutters. Paint the cockpit and the inside of the fuselage before you close the fuselage, and count on the struts and antennas being stronger if you replace them with wire. Check the large wings with their folding outer sections for the correct dihedral before the glue has dried. Postwar naval schemes tend to be in two colors with a crisp transition, so it pays to mask with tape and keep the transition clean; apply the decals onto a gloss surface and unify the finished model with a satin clear coat, which suits naval service better than a deep matte.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
