This kit belongs to the Avrocar Racer X series from the FLY brand, in which the shape of the experimental disc airplane is treated as a racing machine. The individual boxes differ by an additional variant designation in the name; this one carries the designation CMR. The model is intended to be glued and sprayed; it is not a finished product. The contents of the package, the number of parts and the schemes offered are stated on the packaging of the kit.
The shape comes from the Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar, an experimental machine of disc plan form from the turn of the 1950s and 1960s. In the middle of the disc a large rotor was mounted, driven by three small jet engines, the air left through peripheral slots and the airplane was to take off and land vertically. The trials showed that the machine held its stability only just above the ground, and the project was terminated. The unusual shape has nevertheless made it a popular subject for free modeling treatments.
The main work is the long peripheral joint between the two halves of the disc. Dry-fit the parts before gluing, glue section by section with thin cement for plastic and fill the gap with putty. Start the sanding with a coarser grit and finish with a fine one and a polish. A primer coat before the paint will reveal any scratches left, which would otherwise stay visible under the covering shade. Lay the gloss finish on in thin coats and use a gloss varnish under the decals; a flat surface under a decal causes silvery edges.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
