A set of mounted figures of soft plastic in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R, devoted to Breton knights. This is an addition for medieval dioramas and display cases, not a kit of hardware. The figures come in the color of the plastic and are intended for gluing and painting.
In the Middle Ages Brittany was an independent duchy in the west of present-day France with its own nobility and its own cavalry contingents. Breton riders appeared in conflicts across northwestern Europe and their equipment corresponded to the Western European standard of the day: chain mail or plate armor depending on the period, a lance, a sword and a shield. It is precisely the shield that is the most important surface of the whole figure for a modeler, because it carries the colored device that identifies the character at first glance.
With knight sets heraldry decides the result. Before you set about it, paint the shield and the horse's caparison with a uniform base color and let it dry out properly, and only then draw the device with a thin brush. It helps to suggest the shape lightly beforehand with a pencil or thinned paint. Straight lines slowly, not all at once. Do not make the armor silver across the whole surface, but with a dark base followed by a dry brush; the metal then looks deeper. Long lances tend to be bent from transport, and a brief immersion in hot water and cooling in a straight position will straighten them. You will join soft plastic only with cyanoacrylate, as it does not react to ordinary cement for polystyrene, and without a flexible primer the paint will crack on the bends.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
