Responsibility details are not available.
The set belongs to the historical figure line of Strelets-R and focuses on one of the most striking foot formations of the middle of the nineteenth century. The figures in 1:72 scale are supplied unpainted in soft plastic and serve as an addition to a diorama or a display case scene.
The Zouaves were French foot units which came about in North Africa and whose uniform took over elements of local dress. Typical were a short jacket, wide trousers, a waist sash and a headdress in the shape of a fez, sometimes supplemented with a cloth cover. During the Crimean War in the years 1853 to 1856 the Zouave regiments took part in the fighting on the peninsula, and both their appearance and their reputation influenced the uniforms of other armies, including units on other continents. For a modeler this subject is interesting precisely for the colorfulness of the uniform, which differs markedly from the uniform infantry of the time.
The colorful uniform is the main reason modelers get this set, and at the same time it calls for discipline. Keep to a limited palette and repeat the same shades on all the figures, otherwise the unit will lose its cohesion. Before painting, remove the burrs from the figures, wash them and go over them with a thin primer suitable for soft plastic. The wide trousers come out when you tone a darker shade into the folds and brighten the edges lightly. Paint small accessories such as the sash or the tassel on the headdress right at the end with a thin brush, as corrections to the background would otherwise smear the paint. Suggest dusty weathering on the footwear and the lower hem of the trousers only discreetly, so that the contrast of the uniform is not lost.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
