About product

D.H. 100 Vampire Mk.6 1:72 (Amodel)

A plastic kit of the de Havilland D.H. 100 Vampire jet aircraft in the Mk.6 version, in 1:72 from the Ukrainian firm Amodel. In the package you will find injection-molded plastic frets, a clear part for the canopy and a sheet of decals. It is a short-run kit: the parts have heavier gates, the joints have no locating pins and they have to be tuned by sanding and dry-fitting. The reward is a subject that the large manufacturers do not normally offer in this scale.

The real subject

The Vampire was a British single-engine jet aircraft with a short fuselage nacelle and a pair of tail booms. The versions designated Mk.6 were among the fighter-bomber variants derived from the FB series, that is machines with a strengthened wing adapted for carrying stores under the wing and for attacks on ground targets. In its export versions the Vampire entered service in many countries of Europe, Asia and South America, and in some of them it served long after more modern types had replaced it in Britain.

Building and painting tips

Reckon on tuning the joints of the nacelle and the tail booms; try the parts dry and glue with thin cement for plastic, which flows into the seam. It is a good idea to check the nose landing gear leg for balance during the build so that the model does not sit on its tail. Painting is done over a primer; both metal and camouflage shades look best sprayed with an airbrush. Apply a gloss coat under the decals and knock the surface back to matte once it has dried.

Who the model is for

  • modelers of postwar jet aircraft in 1:72
  • collectors of export and less usual versions
  • more experienced builders who do not mind short-run technology
  • anyone building the development line of one type in several versions

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The Mk.1 was the first production fighter version, whereas the Mk.6 belongs to the fighter-bomber variants with a strengthened wing for carrying stores under the wing. They differ in the shape of the wing and in the typical markings.

Rather not. A short-run kit calls for dry-fitting the parts, sanding and patience. A more experienced modeler will manage it without trouble.

They are not. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; paints, glue and accessories have to be obtained separately.

A sheet of decals is part of the package. The instructions in the package state the schemes offered.
