About product

1:72 decals for the Westland Lysander Mk.I/II/III (L Decals Studio)

A decal sheet in 1:72 scale intended for models of the British Westland Lysander in the Mk.I, Mk.II and Mk.III versions. According to the name it offers six camouflage variants, so one package lets you build several differently looking machines or replace markings where the original sheet in the kit has yellowed or been damaged. The decals are printed as classic wet (water-slide) ones and are applied to a finished painted model.

The real subject

The Westland Lysander was a British single-engined high-wing monoplane brought into service at the end of the 1930s as an aircraft for cooperation with ground units. Thanks to fixed leading-edge slats and flaps it had an exceptionally short takeoff and landing and could operate from improvised meadows and field strips. After the experience of 1940 the focus of its use shifted from reconnaissance and artillery observation to auxiliary duties: target towing, air-sea rescue and above all special duty night flights, in which machines with an auxiliary fuel tank and a ladder at the cockpit set down and picked up people in occupied territory. The Mk.I, Mk.II and Mk.III versions differed mainly in the powerplant and the equipment, which also showed in the appearance and the finishes of the individual machines.

How to use the decals

Overspray the finished paintwork under the decals with a gloss clear coat, which prevents the silvering effect. Cut the individual designs out close to the edge, dip them for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let them rest until the backing releases. Put a little water on the area, slide the decal into place and draw off the excess with a cloth. On riveted and engraved lines a decal softener helps, as it pulls the decal onto the surface. Finally coat the model with a matte or semi-matte varnish so that the glossy edges disappear.

Who the sheet is for

  • Modelers who build the Lysander in 1:72 scale and want markings other than those the box offers
  • Collectors of Second World War British aviation
  • Builders of older kits with degraded original decals
  • Those who want to build a series of mutually different machines from several examples

It is a separate decal sheet. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. This is only a decal sheet; the Lysander kit in 1:72 scale itself has to be obtained separately.

They are classic wet decals. The cut-out design is soaked in lukewarm water, slid onto a gloss clear coat and, once dry, coated with a matte varnish.

According to the name, six camouflage variants, so several different machines can be marked from one sheet.

For the Mk.I, Mk.II and Mk.III versions in 1:72 scale.
