About product

The de Havilland DH.100 Vampire in 1:72 from the manufacturer Amodel

An injection-molded plastic kit of the British Vampire jet fighter in 1:72. According to the name of the box the set covers several versions of the type, namely the Mk 3, 5, 6, 9 and 52, so you can choose between the pure fighter and the fighter-bomber form and between home and export machines. Amodel is a Ukrainian manufacturer focused on short-run aircraft kits. The model is unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Vampire belonged to the first generation of British jet aircraft. It first flew while the Second World War was still on and entered squadron service shortly afterwards. It is unmistakable for its short fuselage nacelle with the cockpit, its single centrifugal jet engine and its twin-boom tail with two booms and a common horizontal tail surface. Pure fighter versions, fighter-bomber variants for attacks on ground targets and tropicalized variants for service in hot climates came about in turn. The Vampire became one of the most widespread export jet aircraft of its day and served with dozens of air arms around the world, with some of them long after more modern types had replaced it at home.

Building and painting tips

With a short-run mold, reckon on sanding the mating surfaces and on dry-fitting the parts. The key thing is to seat both tail booms symmetrically, best of all against a surface with a right angle, so that the tail surface is not twisted. Complete and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage up, and mask the clear parts. Apply a gloss coat before the decals and even the surface out afterwards with a matte or semi-gloss coat. With silver and polished metal schemes a smoothly sanded base helps.

Who the model is for

  • enthusiasts of early British jet equipment
  • modelers who collect aircraft of the 1950s in 1:72
  • more experienced builders used to short-run molds
  • anyone interested in the export versions spread around the world

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The name of the box gives the Mk 3, 5, 6, 9 and 52 versions, but you always build one aircraft. Which variants can really be built from the parts and decals is set out in the instructions in the package.

Rather not. Short-run molds call for sanding, filling and patient dry-fitting of the parts.

The symmetrical seating of both tail booms. An asymmetric tail is immediately apparent on the Vampire.

They are not. The kit holds only the parts, the decals and the instructions, and paints and glue are bought separately.
