A sheet of waterslide decals in 1:72 with the markings of two Douglas C-47A Dakota machines operated by the Polish transport company LOT in 1946. The set holds the civil registrations SP-LCB and SP-LCF and makes it possible to build a model in the postwar transport form instead of the usual military one. In the package there are decals only; the model and paints are not part of it.
After the end of the Second World War hundreds of C-47 transport aircraft were left with no military use, and the European airlines, thanks to their low price and proven design, put them to work restoring scheduled services. The machines were converted for passengers, were given civil registrations and a new color scheme. It was precisely such aircraft that stood at the beginning of the Polish carrier's postwar operations and they represent an interesting intermediate stage between the military and the purely civil history of the type. A model in the transport scheme therefore looks markedly different from an ordinary Dakota in gray-green camouflage.
Civil schemes tend to be glossy, so spray and clear-coat the whole model with a gloss coat before applying the decals. Carry the long airline stripes and the registrations onto plenty of water, so that they can be lined up by the engraved lines and the windows. A softener will help the film adhere to the riveting and to the transition by the doors, but let it work without brushing over it. Line the registration on the underside of the wing up by the axis of the fuselage, otherwise a deviation will be immediately visible on the finished model. A final gloss coat evens the surface out and hides the edges of the film.
The package holds the decals only. The model, glue and paints are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
