The number of parts, the extent of the decal sheet and the number of options offered are stated on the box; go by the instructions in the box. Hasegawa has the F-35 type in this scale in several forms, and the individual releases differ above all in the unit the machines belong to and in the decals.
The F-35 Lightning II is a single-seat single-engine fifth-generation combat aircraft with a reduced radar signature. The A version is the basic form with conventional take-off and landing, intended for land bases; it differs from the other versions in, among other things, an internal cannon and the layout of the fuel system. Its characteristic features are shaped air intakes with no splitter plate, internal weapon bays and a faceted airframe shape. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force gradually replaced older Phantoms with the type, among other units in the 301st Squadron.
Aircraft with a reduced radar signature have a matte finish in fine shades of gray with almost no sheen, so a smooth surface is the key thing: sand the parting lines carefully, so that they do not stand out on a uniform area. Apply a filler primer, then the base shade, and modulate it gently, otherwise the model looks flat. Finish the cockpit and mask the canopy before spraying. Settle the decals onto a glossy intermediate coat and finish the whole model with a matte varnish. Accent the panel lines only very gently, as a pronounced wash would look out of place on this type.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
