A set of printed decals in 1:72 scale for models of the fighter aircraft Vought F4U Corsair in the 5N and 5NL versions in the colors of the Argentine naval aviation. This is neither a kit nor a model but a separate accessory for a kit already bought. The exact extent of the set, the number of sheets and the number of schemes offered are given on the box.
The Corsair was among the most capable carrier fighter aircraft of its day. Its distinguishing feature is the cranked inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use a large propeller and shorten the landing gear legs all the same. The F4U-5N version was a night fighter conversion fitted with a radar in a pod on the right wing and with additional equipment for flying at night and in poor visibility. The designation NL corresponds to the form adapted for operation in a cold climate. The Argentine naval aviation operated Corsairs in the postwar period, and its machines wore conspicuous national insignia and striking markings that differ plainly from the American schemes. For a modeler it is an attractive alternative to the usual American versions.
First finish the model and go over it with a gloss varnish, or a silvery film will stay under the decal. In 1:72 scale the motifs are small, so use tweezers with smooth jaws and plenty of light. Cut the decals close around the print, soak them for a few seconds in lukewarm water and let them rest. A softener will help the motif settle into the scribing and flow around the curve of the wing root. Once it has dried, wash the surface and unify it with a matte or satin varnish according to the character of the real machine.
