The self-adhesive masking set Eduard General Dynamics EF-111A in 1:72 scale, cut from kabuki tape. An accessory for a kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of precisely cut self-adhesive masks from the Czech maker Eduard for a model of the General Dynamics EF-111A in 1:72 scale. The masks are cut from kabuki tape, that is, from a fine Japanese masking tape that holds well even on slightly curved surfaces, forms no capillary for paint to run under the edge and leaves no adhesive on the clear parts once it is taken off. This is neither a kit nor a finished model but an accessory that shortens the most tiresome part of the build.
The EF-111A was an American electronic warfare aircraft. It came about by converting the tactical bomber F-111A, which General Dynamics built, into a machine without gun or bomb armament, whose task was to jam the radars of air defense. It kept the two-seat side-by-side cockpit, two jet engines and a variable-geometry wing. Its characteristic distinguishing mark is the large fairing on the vertical tail and the equipment housed in the space of the original bomb bay. The type was withdrawn from the armament of the US Air Force in the second half of the 1990s.
The glazing of the cockpit of the F-111 and its derivatives is large and intricate, so cutting the tape by hand takes a lot of time. Carry the masks with tweezers, begin with the largest areas and add the smaller pieces gradually. First spray the frames with the shade of the interior. The gray finish of electronic warfare aircraft tends to be low in contrast, so before the final coat check the edge of the mask against the light to see whether it is lifting anywhere. Cover the remaining unmasked areas of the glazing with a piece of tape or with a masking fluid.
This is an accessory for a kit. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
