A resin set from the Reskit brand for a model of the Grumman F-14D Tomcat carrier-borne fighter in 1:72 scale. According to the name it holds exhaust nozzles in both versions, open and closed, so you choose according to the scene the model captures, or combine them as it commonly looks on real machines. It is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory replacing the plastic parts of the tail end.

The real subject

The F-14D was the final production version of the Tomcat, powered by General Electric F110-GE-400 engines. The petals of the exhaust nozzles take different positions according to the engine setting, so in photographs of one and the same machine you will find the tail end different each time. The combined set solves that problem: you do not have to decide in advance and can choose during the build according to the particular subject.

Building and painting tips

Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and clear them of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and sand the cut wet with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Apply a primer before painting. On the open variant darken the inside of the nozzle; on the closed one concentrate on the structure of the outer petals. Apply metallic shades and heat staining in thin layers, and a dark wash into the recesses with a fine dry brush on the edges will finish the result off.
