The kit captures a flatcar meant for transporting heavy vehicles, in the form used in Germany during the Second World War. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The 1:72 scale matches ordinary kits of equipment and figures of this size, so the wagon can be combined with a vehicle model and with a diorama.
Moving heavy equipment over long distances was handled by rail during the Second World War, because tracked vehicles had a limited range and wore out quickly when driven under their own power. Low-deck flatcars with several axles, which spread the weight of the load, served for this. The decisive limit was the loading gauge of the line, that is, the maximum width and height of the load; on the heaviest vehicles the wide tracks were therefore exchanged for narrower transport tracks before loading and the outer parts of the running gear were removed. A vehicle was driven onto the wagon up a ramp and secured with chocks, wooden blocks and chains or cables.
According to the material you find in the package, start by washing the parts in lukewarm soapy water and removing the casting blocks; sand resin with respiratory protection and glue it with super glue. The load area of the wagon is formed on the real subject by a wooden floor, which takes a different treatment than the steel frame: a brown base tone, thin picking out of the individual boards and a wash in the seams look more convincing than a uniform area. The frame and the running gear, on the other hand, live on rust and oily traces, which are done with pigments and dark effects. Do not forget that the wagon on its own is not a finished scene; only rails, a ballast bed and a load turn it into one.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
