About product

Kawasaki T-4 Blue Impulse 2020 in 1:72 - a Hasegawa kit

An injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese manufacturer Hasegawa in 1:72. The boxing is devoted to the form of the Blue Impulse aerobatic team in 2020, when the team celebrated its sixtieth anniversary; the reference to the anniversary and to two models in one package is part of the name. A double package is particularly useful for building a formation or for two different numbers within the same team. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, with instructions and a decal sheet. The number of parts and the decal schemes on offer are given in the enclosed instructions.

The real subject

The Kawasaki T-4 is a Japanese two-seat subsonic jet trainer with a pair of engines, a high-set wing and seats in tandem. It serves for advanced pilot training and for secondary duties such as liaison between bases. It is the T-4 that the Japanese Blue Impulse aerobatic team uses, performing at air shows in a blue and white finish; its typical colors and the striking waves along the fuselage are among the most recognizable aircraft schemes there are. The team has been active since 1960, so the year 2020 fell on its sixtieth anniversary.

Building and painting tips

The key to a good result is a clean surface and accurate masking. A blue and white scheme calls for the order from light to dark: first a white base coat over the primer, then masking and spraying the blue. Mask the transitions with formable masking tape or liquid mask, so that the edges stay crisp. Apply gloss varnish before the decals; on gloss the decals adhere better and no silvered edges appear. Finish the cockpit and the seats before the fuselage is closed. With two models in one package it pays to separate and mark both sets of parts in advance, so that the variants are not mixed up. Keep the weathering very restrained, as aircraft performing at air shows tend to be well kept.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers who enjoy building aerobatic and ceremonial schemes
  • Anyone interested in Japanese aircraft and trainers
  • Builders who want to create a formation from two machines
  • Modelers with experience of masking and spraying two-color schemes

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The name states so expressly. You will find the exact make-up of both sets of parts and the extent of the decals in the enclosed instructions.

It is the Japanese aerobatic team, which uses the Kawasaki T-4 in its characteristic blue and white finish.

Work from the light color to the dark. Apply the white first, mask once it has dried and only then spray the blue. Crisp edges come from good masking tape or liquid mask.

The number of parts and the number of decal schemes are given in the enclosed instructions.
