1:72 DOT machine gun and gun bunker is a cast kit of a permanent fortification work from the Czech manufacturer ROP o.s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The model captures a permanent fortification work with mixed machine gun and gun armament. The abbreviation DOT stands for a permanent firing point - a concrete bunker with embrasures from which the crew covered a defined stretch of the defensive line with fire. It is not an injection-molded plastic kit but a short-run casting meant to be assembled, cleaned up and painted.
Bunkers of this type were built above all in the interwar period and during the Second World War as part of continuous defensive lines. They were built from reinforced concrete, they had a thick front wall and staggered embrasures for a machine gun and a gun, so that one work could handle short and longer range fire alike. The work was usually sunk into the ground, so that only its upper part rose above the surface and it offered the smallest possible target. The usual equipment included an entrance embrasure, ventilation and observation devices; the outer shell was camouflaged with paint, banked earth or vegetation.
Wash the castings before building in lukewarm water with detergent so that no mold release agent stays on the surface - otherwise the paint will not hold and will later flake off. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw or a cutting disc rather than with nippers, so that the material does not chip; sand wet and with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Concrete looks good over a light gray base coat with dark washes in the joints, drybrushing on the edges and fine mottling. Rust stains under the armored parts, moss at the foot of the walls and banked earth around the work add to the realism; the work naturally invites being set into a small terrain base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
