This is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for your own kit. The package contains two resin Lewis Mk I machine guns in 1:72 scale in the form in which, according to the name, the jacket has been removed and part of the cooling fins remains exposed. This shape differs conspicuously from the enclosed form and shows on a model at first glance.
Around the barrel the Lewis had a cooling body with longitudinal fins, which was usually enclosed in a cylindrical jacket directed into the airflow. Aviation use tested this design and showed that the airflow around the aircraft provides the cooling even without the jacket. In practice various degrees of lightening therefore arose, from removing the front part to taking the jacket off entirely. This form corresponds to the state in which half of the cooling fins is exposed.
The longitudinal fins of the cooling body are exactly the detail the resin accessory is bought for and at the same time the most vulnerable spot on the part. Do not sand them, and when cutting the casting block off, lead the blade clear of them. Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent first. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, ideally dropped onto a surface and transferred into the joint on the tip of a wire so that the glue does not flood the engraving. When painting, spray a thin coat; a heavy coat of paint fills the fine fins in, and once it has dried a wash and a dry brush will bring them out.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as separate resin parts. The kit, the glue and the paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
