A self-adhesive masking set from SX-Art for the model of the two-seat MiG-25 RU trainer version in 1:72 scale. It is neither a kit nor parts for a model but a sheet of pre-cut masks that are stuck onto finished surfaces before spraying and taken off once the paint is on. The sharp edge then arises directly under the mask and there is no need to clean it up with a brush afterwards.
The trainer version differs from the combat one precisely in the places that masking deals with most. Ahead of the original cockpit a second position with its own canopy is built into the nose, so the model has two glazed sections with different framing immediately one behind the other and a mask for the single-seat version is no help here. Besides the glazing, this subject offers a further pair of items: the main and nose landing gear wheels, where the rubber should end sharply at the rim of the disc, and the dark anti-glare panel ahead of the windshield, which on the two-seat version runs a different way from the standard machine. The extent of this particular sheet is not stated here, so check it before you buy.
Degrease the parts and let them dry perfectly. Lift the masks off with a scalpel or tweezers, lay them down dry and press the edges carefully. With two adjoining cockpits work from the front one backward; it is easier to keep the alignment. Spray the paint in thin coats at a right angle to the edge. Take the mask off shortly after spraying, while the varnish is fresh; on a cured coat there is a risk of tearing the edge of the paint away.
