A sheet for the twin-engine Mitchell II bomber in the B-25C version, scale 1:72. Four schemes, three of No. 305 Squadron of the Royal Air Force and one of a training unit in the Bahamas.
Responsibility details are not available.
The medium twin-engine bomber from North American appeared on every theater during the war and handled roles it had not originally been designed for: it patrolled over the sea, attacked vessels and trains and in the Pacific flew just above the water. The version marked with the letter C brought a strengthened structure, a greater fuel reserve and the possibility of carrying bombs under the wings. The Royal Air Force used its own name Mitchell II for it and put it into units operating over western Europe. The characteristic features of the type remain the twin rudders and the slightly cranked wing.
Most of the sheet therefore belongs to a single squadron, with which it can be followed how a trio of machines flying side by side in the same period looked. The fourth scheme is of a different stamp: the machines handed over to crews in the Bahamas served for familiarization training and carried markings strikingly different from those of the combat units over Europe. Anyone building an airfield diorama gets both the combat trio and a contrasting example in one envelope.
Before starting work, look the sheet over against the light and plan the order, so that the large areas go onto the model before the small lettering. Work one marking at a time and let the surface dry between steps. The kit is not in the price.
