The Mustang III of the Polish RAF squadrons in 1:72 scale. Four machines from 1944 and 1945, among them the aircraft of Bohdan Arct and Jan Zumbach.
Responsibility details are not available.
Mustang III was the British name for the American P-51B and P-51C. The British replaced its canopy with a bulged part of Malcolm design, which at last allowed the pilot to look behind him, and used it for bomber escort as well as for chasing V-1 flying bombs. The Polish squadrons of the RAF sat in these cockpits too, and this 1:72 sheet brings four of their aircraft.
Zumbach's machine carries not the squadron code but his initials; wing leaders had that privilege. After the war Arct made his name as a writer and illustrator whose books about airmen appeared in Czech as well.
The Mustang has a smooth all-metal skin with a minimum of surface detail, which is an ideal ground for decals. A glossy interlayer and clean water are enough; a softener is useful only on the leading edges and at the join with the canopy. The bag holds the printed sheet and drawings. The serial numbers in the HB and FB ranges belong to British deliveries of American production and are repeated in the drawings on the fuselage and under the wing. Check, therefore, that your kit represents the early cockpit, because with the later bubble-canopy version these codes would not match. Plastic parts and paints are obtained separately.
