1:72 North Vietnamese Flags is a printed paper sheet of period flags for dioramas in 1:72 scale from the firm ETA diorama. It is not a kit and not a waterslide decal – the motifs are cut out, formed and fitted onto a pole or onto a model in a scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
In a scene a flag is a purely backdrop element that tells the viewer where and when the display takes place. This sheet brings period flag depictions in 1:72 scale relating to the North Vietnamese side of the conflict in Southeast Asia and serves solely to make a scene from a present-day conflict look believable. From the building point of view it is a paper part that is cut out, bent and glued on.
On a pole by a building, on the antenna of a vehicle, on a rod carried by a figure or draped over a railing. In a display case scene in 1:72 a flag is small, so it suits placing it higher, where it has free space around it and is legible. Watch the size: a flag tends instinctively to be made too large while building, and believability of scale matters more here than effect.
Cut the motif out with a scalpel; for a double-sided flag glue two parts back to back over a thin strip of aluminum foil – that holds the shape and makes it possible to form a wave. Without reinforcement the paper will not hold the waving. Dampen the paper only lightly before forming and draw the shape out with your fingers over a rounded tool, so that a flowing sag is created without sharp creases. It is glued with PVA or matte glue drop by drop. Finally darken the white edge of the cut, add a hint of dust with dry pastel and spray with matte clear coat, which strengthens the paper and unifies it with its surroundings. A slightly torn or worn edge looks more believable than a perfect rectangle.
It is a printed paper accessory, not a kit and not a decal. A pole, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
