1:72 O?-34/76 Part II. (Zvezda 5001)

The real subject

The T-34 with a 76.2 mm gun is the earlier form of the famous Soviet medium tank, that is the one with which the Red Army entered the war. The combination of steeply sloped armor, wide tracks and a powerful gun was unusually well balanced for its day, and German units in the first months of the fighting regarded it as an unpleasant surprise. The weak point remained the two-man turret, in which the commander served the gun and could not keep up with commanding at the same time. That is precisely why it was later replaced by the version with a larger turret and an 85 mm gun.

What the set contains

A printed decal sheet in 1:72 scale with tactical markings and inscriptions. The second part designation in the name says that the set follows on from an earlier sheet of the same line and brings further marking variants, not that it is incomplete. Which machines are on the sheet and how many there are is given in the manufacturer's instructions. The name further states that the set is prepared for the Zvezda kit with the catalog number 5001; on another model of the same scale, therefore, compare the dimensions of the motif beforehand with the area it is to go onto.

How the decals are applied

Cut the motif out together with its backing paper, soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and, as soon as the film begins to move, lay it in place and draw the paper out from under it. The base should be smooth and gloss. On the cast surface of the turret a softener helps, so that the film is pressed into the texture and no air is left under it. Finally cover the area with a matte varnish.
