SX-Art masking stencils for the Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf. H in 1:72 scale

A set of self-adhesive masking stencils from the manufacturer SX-Art intended for a model of the Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf. H tank in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and not spare parts but a modeling accessory: the stencils are stuck to a painted model, a further color is oversprayed over them and once they are taken off a precisely bounded motif remains on the surface. The result lies directly in the paint, has no glossy film of decal carrier and is in no danger of silvering or of peeling on edges and rivets.

Which subject the set belongs to

The Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf. H was the most numerously produced version of the German medium tank of the Second World War. Its identifying marks are the long 7.5 cm gun barrel, a reworked turret and side skirts against shaped charges on the hull and the turret. It is precisely the broken surface with skirts and rivets that makes masking with stencils a practical solution, because a decal seats on such an area with difficulty.

Use

• Let the base paint mature thoroughly before masking, with acrylics ideally for several days.
• Take the stencil off its backing, lay it in place and press it down over its whole area, with particular care along the edges.
• Apply the paint with an airbrush in several thin coats and at a right angle to the surface; a thick coat runs under the edge of a stencil.
• Peel the stencil off shortly after the paint has set, while the film is not yet completely hard, as the edge is then cleaner.
• Fix the finished spraying with a varnish compatible with the paint used, and only then go on with patina.
