Responsibility details are not available.
A figure set of soft plastic in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Strelets-R, aimed at the cavalry units of the Red Army in the period of the Second World War. The abbreviation RKKA is the period designation of the Soviet armed forces. The set is an addition for dioramas and collections, not a kit of hardware, and is supplied unglued and unpainted.
Cavalry formations stayed in use in the Soviet army even after motorization arrived, because they found use where hardware ran up against the terrain: in forests, in mud and in deep snow. They were used mainly for movement, reconnaissance and for operations in areas where there were no roads. The equipment corresponded to that of infantry: a long greatcoat, pouches, simple armament and in winter a warmer outer layer and a fur cap. The horse served above all for movement, while the fighting itself took place largely dismounted.
The uniforms of this period are very muted in color, so keep the whole set in a matte palette and create the contrast with light, not with color. Apply the base tone evenly, brighten the raised places with a dry brush and deepen the shadows with a thin dark wash. A matte surface is fundamental here, as any residual sheen looks artificial on a figure in a small scale, so spray the whole with matte clear at the end. Paint the horses separately from the riders and combine several shades of brown, as a monotonous stable flattens a scene. Set the harness apart with a matte dark color and the metal only in spots. Soft plastic is glued solely by cyanoacrylate and needs a flexible primer before painting, otherwise the paint flakes off on the bends.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
