A set of resin castings with which you equip a kit of the Lockheed S-3A Viking carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale. According to the name it is a cargo pod carried under the aircraft, supplemented by further small parts. It is not an aircraft kit: it is an accessory used together with the base plastic model. The manufacturer is the Czech marque Black Dog, which has long specialized in resin accessories and diorama sets.
The Lockheed S-3 Viking was a carrier aircraft of the US Navy taken into service in the middle of the 1970s. It was created to find and destroy submarines, so it carried extensive sensor equipment and was operated by a crew of several. Power came from a pair of jet engines in nacelles under the high-mounted wing, which folded for stowage on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Later versions also took on patrol, reconnaissance and tanker duties, and pods carried under the aircraft were used precisely for moving cargo and baggage between the ship and the shore.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, because the mold release residue would otherwise keep the paint from holding. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, and never snap them off. Sand wet rather than dry, and with respiratory protection. They are bonded with super glue, that is, cyanoacrylate; ordinary cement for plastic does not work on resin. Before painting it pays to apply a filler primer, which will even out the surface of the resin and the plastic.
This is an accessory, not a complete kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package. Check before you buy that the set fits your kit.
