The set is focused on one tank destroyer battalion named in the product name, which makes it a targeted accessory for modelers who want to build one particular machine rather than the type in general. The package holds only the decals; the model is bought separately. The exact extent of the sheet is given by the maker on the box.
The Sd.Kfz. 184 is a heavy tank destroyer built on a chassis that came out of an unsuccessful heavy tank project. The long-barreled weapon sits in a fixed casemate superstructure placed at the rear, while the engine compartment is in the middle of the vehicle. The most interesting feature technically is the gasoline-electric transmission of power: internal combustion engines drive generators and these feed electric motors at the drive sprockets. The vehicle had very heavy frontal armor and an effective gun at long range, in exchange for high weight, poor mobility and demanding maintenance. Only a small number were built and they were later modified.
The Ferdinand has large flat areas on the sides of the superstructure, where a decal is easy to lay but where every deviation from the vertical axis is also visible. Check the placement dry beforehand. Gloss varnish belongs under the decal, and a decal softener helps around the edges of the armor plates. For large motifs, use the method with the paper left underneath: transfer the decal to the model together with the paper and pull the paper out, which prevents rippling. Once it has dried, seal it with matte varnish and only then apply dust, mud and scuffs.
