An accessory set in modeling resin aimed at the armament of a plastic model of the Seafire FR.46 and FR.47 carrier-based fighter in 1:72 scale. The barrels and their fairings are among the parts on which the simplification of injected plastic shows first, as they tend to be thick and have blunt muzzles. The set replaces them with castings with a sharper rendering. It is not a kit of the aircraft; you have to have the base plastic model of your own.
The Seafire FR.46 and FR.47 were the last and most capable carrier-based versions derived from the Spitfire, powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. Compared with the original machine it was practically a different aircraft: a more powerful engine, sizeable tail surfaces and, on the FR.47, contra-rotating propellers, which dealt with the torque on a short deck. The main armament was formed by four 20 mm cannons in the wing, whose fairings and protruding barrels are characteristic of the silhouette of the late Seafires. The designation FR means a fighter and reconnaissance role.
The thin armament parts sit on casting blocks and separating them calls for patience. Cut with a fine-toothed saw, supporting the part with a finger as close to the cut as possible so that it does not bend; resin cracks where it bends, not where you cut. Sand the remainder of the block down only at the end. Put the small parts you have cut off straight into a dish or onto double-sided tape, otherwise they will be lost. The muzzles of the barrels can be suggested by a light turn of a micro drill, but carefully and only on the axis. Painting: a dark metallic shade on the barrels, the body of the fairings in the color of the aircraft, and then the seams picked out with a thin wash. Before all of that, though, a thorough wash free of the release agent and a base.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a stand-alone model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
