Photo-etched side screens for the Sturmgeschütz III, late version, in 1:72 from the Polish maker Aber. A metal replacement for the plastic Schürzen in the form of the late production mounting.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched metal detail set in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a model of the vehicle but an accessory with which you replace the plastic Schürzen side screens on a model of the German Sturmgeschütz III assault gun, their mounting included. The set matches the later form of the mounting, which differs from the early one in the design of the brackets and in how the plates are held.
The side screens protected the sides of the hull and the running gear from anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge ammunition. Over the course of the war their mounting was simplified both because of production demands and because the plates were constantly being lost in the field — the late solution was sturdier and easier to replace. Period photographs show vehicles with an incomplete set of screens more often than with a full one.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a glass or metal mat. Use a photo-etch bending tool for the bends, or else two steel rulers. Make the joints with cyanoacrylate glue; larger areas can be secured with epoxy. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a base coat for metals. Unlike plastic, metal sheet can be bent, dented and even cut, so you can easily create the missing or damaged plates that match real service.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
