A set of masking stencils in 1:72 scale from Armycast. The marking is laid onto a model by spraying: the film is stuck to finished paintwork, the star is sprayed over it and the mask is taken off. You get a marking with no carrier film that does not silver and does not leave a glossy rectangle on a matte surface. It is not a model and not a part of one, but an accessory for finishing.
The item falls into the range of Kremlin stars that the manufacturer keeps separate from the ordinary red stars with their different drawing. The edging is given as white, or yellowish — both forms occurred in service according to the batch of paint and the state of the finish. The qualifier for the late period is the division used by the manufacturer. Because the marking differed from machine to machine within one aircraft type, we recommend comparing the shape and the size with a photograph or a color profile of the particular subject before applying it.
The film takes hold only on a smooth and cured base, so let the base coat harden and degrease the area. Press the edges of the mask down with a toothpick so that no gap is left anywhere. Apply the paint with an airbrush at right angles to the surface and in thin coats — spraying at an angle drives paint under the film and the edge blurs. On a two-color star, work from the lighter color to the darker one with masking over between the steps. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, with tweezers and at a sharp angle. A final matte varnish unifies the gloss and hides the transition between the paintwork and the marking.
This is a masking accessory, not a model. Paints, glue and a kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
