A set of markings from the Czech maker HGW Models for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX fighter in 1:72 scale. The name of the edition refers to the summer days of 1944 and the Allied operations over Normandy. The package contains markings, that is national insignia and the personal markings of individual machines; it is not a kit nor parts of a model.
It is precisely in 1:72 scale that the main advantage of this technology comes through. With ordinary decals the carrier film here tends to be fairly thick and on a small model it is visible even after clear-coating. With a wet transfer the carrier layer is removed once the motif has been positioned and has dried, and only the paint remains, so the markings read as sprayed on and do not spoil the fine panel lines.
Cut small motifs out in advance with a sufficient margin and move them with tweezers. The base must be smooth and clear-coated with a gloss coat. Once positioned, press the air out gently with a soft cloth and let it dry thoroughly, and only then remove the carrier layer. A final matte coat evens out the surface and prepares the model for weathering. Anyone starting with this technique should try the first piece in a less conspicuous place on the underside of the fuselage: the procedure is simple, but it takes a while to get used to judging when the motif is dry enough.
The package contains markings only. The model, paints and clear coats are not part of it.
