A plastic kit of the carrier aircraft TBM-3U Avenger in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Sword. According to the name the package contains two marking options for the US Navy. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Avenger was a carrier torpedo bomber with a single radial engine, a roomy bomb bay in the fuselage and folding wings for stowage on aircraft carriers. The versions built by General Motors carried the designation TBM. The TBM-3U form was created by converting production TBM-3 aircraft into an auxiliary machine for target towing and for general support tasks. The combat equipment of these aircraft was reduced, but the aircraft kept its characteristic rugged build, long glazed spine and tall fin.
Short-run kits tend to have thicker gates and less accurate mating surfaces than mass-produced kits, so test the parts dry before gluing and fill the gaps with filler. Mask the cockpit glazing, ideally with self-adhesive masking film; the large glazed area is very visible on this type. Finish the interior and the engine before closing the fuselage. Overcoat the model with gloss varnish before the decals and flatten it once dry. Auxiliary and training aircraft tended to be conspicuously finished, so use quality opaque shades and a clean airbrush for painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
