About product

1:72 US Original Tarpaulin for WWII Trailer – a printed sheet, ETA diorama

In 1:72 scale the tarpaulin on a trailer is a part that practically cannot be made convincingly from plastic – a plastic wall is several times too thick against real canvas when scaled down. Thin printed paper is far closer to tarpaulin cloth. It can be bent over an edge, allowed to sag between the bows and waved along the ropes, and the finished printing already carries the color and the tone of the canvas, so there is no need to mix a shade and spray a small part.

What the sheet produces

It produces a tarpaulin for a US trailer from the period of the Second World War in 1:72 scale, that is an accessory to a model, not the model itself. It comes into its own in small dioramas and display case scenes, where a trailer parked by a tractor or by a depot completes a column. Because every superfluous millimeter shows in 1:72, it pays to undercut the tarpaulin and fine-tune it rather than to cut it with a large allowance.

How to use the sheet

Take the dimensions straight off the model, best with a strip of paper laid in place. Cut with a new scalpel edge – in a small scale a frayed edge is noticeable at once. Dampen the paper only lightly before forming, so that it does not soften too much. It helps to reinforce the back with aluminum foil; the tarpaulin then holds the sag by itself. It is glued with PVA or matte glue in small sections; super glue soaks through paper. Keep the patina fine – at this scale a hint of dust with dry pastel, a very thinned wash into the folds and matte clear coat, which unifies the sheet with the rest of the model and at the same time strengthens it against rubbing, are enough.

Who the sheet is for

  • Modelers of US machinery from the Second World War in 1:72 scale
  • Builders of small dioramas and display case scenes
  • Those who want to avoid forming a tarpaulin from putty or plastic
  • Modelers who struggle to create thin tarpaulin cloth in a small scale

It is a printed paper accessory, not a kit and not a decal. A model of the trailer, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. The package holds only the printed paper sheet for making the tarpaulin.

On the contrary – thin paper is closer in scale to real tarpaulin cloth than a plastic wall, which cannot be made thin enough at this scale.

Reinforce the back with a strip of aluminum foil or thin sheet metal. The paper then holds the shape without any further gluing.

Neither the dimensions nor a list of compatible models is stated. Always take the actual dimensions off your own model before cutting.
